Every drop off water lost is a cost to business & an important natural resource that we need to be wise with. Therefore water leaks within a factory environment need to be kept at minimum, as one small leak dripping 24/7 will add up to a large cost in a very short time.

Having worked in a factory environment personally for 20 years I know that wash guns, wash points & cleaning is an important area of the business. Washing is critical anywhere in the factory or on a production line, the equipment must work or production can be stopped which is expensive.

The other fact is that many factories have a large number of guns, that are a large outlay for any business. Therefore a gun is required to be a reasonable cost & that will work & last for as long as possible. This means that it will need to be robust as possible to allow factories can run up to 20 hours per day 5-7 days per week in a heavy handling situation. Staff are in a rush to perform their work as the production line is busy & downtime cannot happen. Then the cleaning staff are in a rush also to get their job done in sometimes a cleaning window of as little as four hours.

Euro Pumps started investigations into the internal components of typical wash guns. What is inside the guns? Are the internal working mechanisms that need to work repeatedly able to function without failing. Secondly in order to prevent failure they needed to have the highest quality compartments inside especially rated to heat for hot water use & robustness to cope with the heavy handling. Euro Pumps have been continuously working on R&D with our cleaning systems we have learnt about plastics & engineering on making products work well with precise fine tuning to save every drop of water. We realised that the key to making critical parts that need to perform reliably in these guns is the PEEK internal componets.

PEEK which stands for Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a colourless organic thermoplastic polymer in the polyaryletherketone (PAEK) family, used in engineering applications.

guns4The KETRON PEEK family of materials is based on polyetheretherketone resin. This semi-crystalline advanced material exhibits a unique combination of high mechanical properties, temperature resistance and excellent chemical resistance making it the most popular advanced plastics material.

The composition of the raw materials used for the production of the KETRON PEEK 1000 natural stock shapes complies with the directives of the European Union and with the American FDA regulations concerning plastic materials intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.

These features, added to its excellent sterilisability by means of steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide and gamma radiation, make this grade very popular in medical, pharmaceutical and food processing industries.

Some of PEEK's material properties:

  • Chemical resistance: PEEK displays high resistance amidst a wide range of chemical environments, even including high temperatures. It can only be dissolved in concentrated nitric acid or sulphuric acid.
  • Long life: It is a hard, stiff and strong polymer. It displays good friction as well as wear properties.
  • Hydrolysis resistance: PEEK material can be exposed for a long period of time to high pressure water and steam without exhibiting any serious degradation.
  • High temperature resistance: When the process temperatures go beyond the limit of what conventional plastic materials can withstand, it is advisable to go for PEEK.
